Storage Standards for Grain Silo

Structural and Sealing Requirements

Grain silo must have a sturdy structure to support the load of stored grain and ensure safety. The silo walls should be at least 240mm thick, and the roof must provide excellent insulation and waterproofing. Using double-layered color steel plates with a 50mm thick polystyrene foam core can effectively reduce temperature fluctuations.

The doors and ventilation openings should be well-sealed, with rubber sealing strips installed at all gaps to maintain airtightness. The air leakage rate should not exceed 1% per hour to prevent moisture and pests from entering.

Cleaning and Disinfection Measures

Before storing grain, thoroughly clean the silo to remove residual debris, dust, and other contaminants. Use a high-pressure water gun to wash the walls and floor, ensuring no visible dirt remains. Then, disinfect the space by fumigating with aluminum phosphide. Apply 6-9g of the fumigant per cubic meter and seal the silo for 5-7 days to eliminate pests and microorganisms, ensuring the stored grain remains safe.

Grain Stacking Layout Standards

(1) Base Setup

When stacking grain, create a raised base to facilitate ventilation and moisture prevention. Use sleepers or channel steel as supports, ensuring a minimum height of 300mm. Maintain a sleeper spacing of 500-800mm, and select channel steel with a size of at least No. 10 to provide sufficient load-bearing capacity and airflow.

(2) Stacking Methods and Dimensions

The two common stacking methods are row stacking and ventilated stacking. In row stacking, arrange the stacks neatly, keeping each stack within 10m in length and 2m in width. Stack height should be determined based on the packaging type and silo height, with bagged grain stacks not exceeding 6m.

Ventilated stacking involves an interlaced arrangement that creates air channels, allowing the height to exceed row stacking by 1-2m. Leave at least a 500mm passage between stacks to facilitate inspection and handling.

(3) Distance from the Walls

Keep a minimum gap of 300mm between the grain stacks and the silo walls. This space allows for proper airflow, prevents moisture buildup on the walls, and reduces the risk of mold formation.

Packaging and Labeling Standards

(1) Packaging Material Requirements

Use food-grade packaging materials to store grain. Plastic woven bags lined with polyethylene film bags are ideal. The woven bags must have a tensile strength of at least 150N/50mm, while the polyethylene film thickness should not be less than 0.05mm. These materials provide excellent moisture and pest resistance, ensuring the grain remains in good condition.

(2) Labeling Information

Each packaging bag must clearly display essential information, including the product name, variety, grade, net weight, production date, shelf life, storage conditions, and manufacturer details. Ensure the font size is no smaller than 5mm to maintain readability and facilitate inventory management.

Ventilation Management in Silos

Grain silo must have a well-designed ventilation system to maintain airflow and prevent quality degradation. The total area of natural ventilation openings should be at least 5% of the floor space. Distribute mechanical ventilation ducts evenly, keeping the spacing within 6m. Maintain a minimum airflow speed of 4m/s in the ventilation ducts to ensure efficient air circulation, preventing heat accumulation and mold growth in stored grain.
