This project showcases a complete grain silo storage system designed and installed by COBAN engineering team. It demonstrates our capability in delivering safe, efficient, and durable grain storage solutions for global agricultural projects.

Key engineering parameters & system configuration
Project Location: Mauritania, West Africa
Project Capacity: 4 × 3,000 tons
Total Storage Capacity: 12,000 tons
Main Equipment: Galvanized Steel Grain Silos
Stored Grain: Wheat and other bulk cereals
This Mauritania grain storage project consists of four 3,000-ton galvanized steel grain silos, providing a total storage capacity of 12,000 tons.
The project was developed for large-scale bulk grain storage, with the silo system designed to support more organized grain receiving, storage and discharge operations. Instead of relying mainly on bagged storage, the facility uses vertical steel silos to make better use of the available site area and simplify bulk grain handling.
The 3,000-ton capacity was selected as a practical unit size for separating storage batches while maintaining sufficient total capacity for commercial grain operations.
For a project of this scale, silo capacity is only one part of the design. The storage system also needs to maintain stable grain conditions during extended storage.
The four silos are arranged as an integrated storage group, with the conveying system connecting grain receiving, silo filling and discharge operations.
Key design considerations included:
The silo structure is designed for long-term bulk grain storage, while the supporting conveying equipment allows the facility to handle grain with less manual handling.
Dividing 12,000 tons into four silos provides greater flexibility than using one large storage unit.
Different grain batches can be stored separately according to:
This arrangement also allows operators to empty or inspect one silo without stopping the entire storage facility.
Reliable grain storage is particularly important in Mauritania because wheat and other cereals play a major role in the country’s food supply. In 2023, Mauritania imported approximately 676,113 tons of wheat and meslin, showing the scale of grain movement that commercial storage facilities may need to support.
At the same time, agricultural production is developing. FAO reports that Mauritania’s cereal production in 2024 was estimated at around 571,000 tons, creating additional demand for suitable post-harvest storage infrastructure.
For grain traders, millers and agricultural enterprises, a properly designed steel silo system can therefore serve not only as storage space but also as an important part of the grain supply chain.
With 12,000 tons of total storage capacity, the Mauritania project provides a centralized solution for bulk grain storage and handling.
The four-silo configuration gives the operator more control over individual grain batches while improving the efficiency of loading, storage and discharge operations.
For large grain storage projects in West Africa, the key is not simply increasing silo capacity. The storage structure, aeration, temperature monitoring, conveying equipment and overall process layout need to work together as one system.
